To be frank: IE7 fixed a good portion of the technical issues that plagued IE, it was by no means perfect, but if you were to say that Firefox was a 10, and IE6 was a 1, IE7 was a solid 7.5, it's was mostly good.

It looks sleek and adds functionality (albeit likely useless, though that'll require more looking into) and fits the windows 10 theme. Save the judgement for when you actually get your hands on it. Although Chrome seems to be a hog at times anyways.

Overall i will wait till I use it to pass judgement. I didn't know I would ever read a complaint that something got named. Man everyone has to complain at the drop of the word Microsoft. It's also a really crap name for a browser and doesn't go with the current company direction (remember, when IE was first made the company's slogan was 'Where do you want to go today') 'Edge' is more modern, minimalist, and fits the design language better.Ī compromise might have been to call it 'Internet Explorer: Edge' but that's clumsy.Īlso 'Spartan' is a term used for something 'Basic' or 'Function over form', not something you really want associated with your sexy new browser that is totally the bee's knees AND the duck's guts. I never really dug into it too much, but IIRC 'Spartan' was the codename for the engine (in the same way that IE used the Trident Engine)Īll of that said: It's a new engine, it makes sense to call it something new (granted Trident was also a new engine for IE4) and frankly 'Internet Explorer' is a tarnished name (and frankly I assume that most people who personally use IE, especially 9 or lower, probably still use AOL) I'm sure many will still call it Spartan.Īs far as I know, and read, it was never dubbed anything officially, but the development project for the browser itself was called Project Spartan. I'm surprised they didn't stay with Spartan after using it for so long.
